Performance Braided Hose: Three Essential Steps for Setting Up the Hose Ends

If you are planning on installing performance braided hoses, such as Aeroflow performance parts, in your vehicle, you should engage an experienced technician for the process. In general, braided hoses will perform exceptionally because they are manufactured in a tight-knit braid which limits leakage. Moreover, the design is less prone to cracking and general damage.

However, you should keep in mind that the performance of the hoses will depend on the installation, particularly of the hose ends. If the fittings are placed poorly, your entire system will be compromised and might not perform well. If you are determined to install the fittings personally, consider these simple guidelines for proper hose end setup.

Cut the Braided Hose

When installing your end fittings, you will need to cut the braided hose for proper automobile fitting. In general, you can cut your hose using a fine saw, or you can acquire suitable shears. The ideal choice will depend on your preference. It is also advisable to have some vice jaws to stabilise the hosing when cutting to prevent damage.

You should plan on protecting your braided hose before cutting. Unlike other pipes and hoses, braided products tend to flare out after cutting because of the weave. Therefore, you should apply some masking tape around the cutting point. If you are dealing with a lightweight nylon hose, apply shrink wrap before taping to prevent hairing.

Install the Socket

You should proceed to socket insertion after cutting your hosing. The socket is the component which provides a bridge between the braided hose and the end fitting. In general, you will achieve good results simply by pushing the unit onto the hose and twisting. Ideally, the hosing should be inserted completely into the socket, but it should not overlap with the threads. If you are concerned about your ability to insert the tube into the socket, you can look for speciality tools from a local hardware shop for this purpose. However, this is often unnecessary for a small-scale project.

Place the Hose End

Finally, you should obtain your compatible hose end for insertion into the assembly. This stage of installation is simple because the socket and the fitting have compatible threads. However, you will need to be patient to avoid damaging the assembly. Ideally, you should use a little lubricant on the socket for easier engagement. You should also hold your hose and stabilise it to prevent the damage of the connection with the socket. Tighten the end fitting to prevent premature disassembly.
